It's the call everyone is waiting for. Suddenly, there's a huge crowd around the moto boards. The moto sheet will tell you what race you're in, who is in your race, how many are transferring to the main, and what gate positions you have. All vital information you'll need to know.

Bikes and Gear

BMX BikesMake sure all bolts are tight - especially your axle and stem bolts.Remove: any freestyle type axle pegs; all reflectors and brackets; kickstand and chainguard.Clothing and Protective GearLong sleeve shirt and long pants or jeans.A full-face helmet. We have a few "loaner helmets" for beginners to use.Any enclosed shoe is sufficient. Skateboard style shoes are suggested.

Racing

Every rider practicing or competing on any ABA sanctioned track must obtain an ABA License prior to riding on the track. Memberships can be purchased at the track. There are four types of memberships available: One Day - valid for one practice or one race only. Temporary - valid for 30 calendar days; Annual - valid for one year at any ABA sanctioned event; Gold Card - An annual memberhip with perks.You will be provided a temporary numberplate with your membership purchase.

We Need Your Help

The success of our Club depends entirely on parent volunteers. The jobs listed below are jobs that need to be filled in order to run a race. We expect that everyone volunteer a minimum of 2 jobs a month so that everyone has a chance to watch their child race. The jobs are easy and if needed you can shadow someone to see how a job is done. Riders can also volunteer before and after the race which is helpful. As parents you are here anyways and it can be fun if you choose to make it! -Race setup -Sign up -Concession -Track Official -Staging -Starter -Announcer -Finish LIne -Moto Maker (computer) -Awards

Penticton BMX was formed in the 1980's to provide organized local racing in the sport of BMX. Under the ABA rules of sanction, riders accumulate local points at the Penticton BMX Track and district points at any ABA sanctioned track. Additionally, a national level points program is offered for an increased interest of competition.

Penticton BMX is a separate entity with the common goal of providing competitive yet safe and fun BMX racing. The staff at our track are committed to operating under ABA guidelines to ensure those goals. It is, however, the riders and his/her parents responsibility to understand and follow racing regulations.

With these ideals in mind, the only requirements needed to excel are skill and determination.

About RFL

What is Race for Life?

Like many kids his age, 11-year-old Todd Kingsbury lived and breathed bicycle motocross (BMX) 24 hours a day. In the early part of 1980, he was the leaders in the American Bicycle Association's BMX district points competition. However, as the year went on, Todd went from winning the district-wide events to just barely qualifying for local BMX championship events. Something was wrong.At a Michigan state championship race in July 1980, Todd crashed and had to get his arm checked out. Like most BMX accidents, everything checked out fine but Todd's arm continued to hurt the following week. After getting bumped at school, his arm swelled up to the size of a grapefruit. The Kingsbury family became very concerned and decided it was time for a thorough examination.Todd would spend the next nine days in and out of the hospital, enduing many tests and exams, while at the same time dreaming of someday becoming a BMX Pro. Finally, the doctors completed their diagnosis and explained to Todd and his parents that Todd had leukemia.Todd was now faced with the biggest race: his race for life. In July 1981, when the American Bicycle Association (ABA) staff learned of Todd's diagnosis, the organization and the "family-like" sport of BMX decided to pitch in and help by launching the "Race For Life" series, with all the proceeds going to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's efforts to help find a cure for kids such as Todd. An amazing $223,000 was raised that first year, with 130 ABA tracks putting on Race For Life events.Although weakened by leukemia, Todd continued to ride and worked harder than anyone to support the Race For Life event at the Waterford Oaks, MI BMX track. Todd was to be the honorary race director for that race and told a reporter, "This (event) might help other people from getting it (leukemia)."Todd passed away on Sept. 13, 1981 and was laid to rest in his Powerlite BMX uniform, taking with him a part of the sport he loved. In his 12 years of life, Todd touched many parents and racers. He is remembered in the hearts of all BMXers each year, as every ABA BMX track holds a Race For Life in the hope that someday, there will be a cure for leukemia and a deserving boy such as Todd can live a full life.

Did you know you don't have to be an ABA member to help in the fight against Leukemia & Lymphoma? Give a ABA BMX "Race For Life" donation envelope to a friend. They can help with a great cause, be eligible for great prizes, plus they can try out the great sport of ABA BMX! After you have received your collection envelope for the ABA BMX Race For Life, you need to start collecting donations from your friends, relatives, neighbors and businesses in your community. Instruct the donors to make checks payable to Penticton BMX. When you go back to the track, put all the checks in the envelope but dont seal it because the track operator will have to verify what you have collected in order for you to be eligible to compete for the ABA BMX awards that will be given away. SCHEDULE 2011 ScheduleWe have tried our best to list all local, provincial and national races on our calendar. We are not responsible for date changes that may occur at other provincial tracks. Therefore we recommend you check with them directly prior to heading out of town.Local RacesOur calendar made simple:From April through June you will find us at the track on Mondays and Thursdays. We have included practice nights some Mondays, to hone in skills and practice drills that we do not have time for during race nights.From July through September you will find us at the track on Thursdays. The last Thursday of every month is Trophy Night.

How do Local Points Work?

Each race night riders earn local points based on their results. These points are totalled throughout the race season. At the end of each year, these points determine final club standings for our year-end awards, as well as identify a group of riders that will be considered for Rookie of the Year.

Sea to Sky Nationals Race Report

Penticton riders were met with great weather for the National weekend.

There have been significant track upgrades since last provincial finals making for a super technical track this year! Aidan, Paige and Cody crashed during Sunday's qualifing motos and almost every moto of the mains had a crash, and most in the rhythm section.
